Watch Drake Deliver Graduation Speech After Receiving High School Diploma
Not only did Drake complete his high school graduation earlier this month, he also had the privilege of speaking to his fellow graduates at the Jarvis Collegiate Institute in Toronto. "What this is about for all of you is the art of following through," Drizzy told his classmates.
Drake dropped out of high school at age 15 to pursue other interests and has been hugely successful even without a diploma, but he told the audience that he still felt incomplete.
"I reached a point in my life where I realized that there aren't material things that can give me the excitement that I'm looking for," Drake said. "There's a void, a gap in my life that I needed to fill, and I needed to sit and think long and hard what that was. It was the fact that I had left a gaping hole in my story following through."
Speaking with the wisdom of someone who has had a great deal of life experience, the 26-year-old added, "Sometimes it’s the journey that teaches you a lot about your destination. And sometimes when you get there, you’ll look back and you’ll realize that you wish you could go there again because all the experiences are the reason that you are who you are today. I want you all to give a round of applause to yourselves for getting there.”
The rapper closed his speech by wishing his fellow graduates well, and he dedicated his diploma to his mother, a retired teacher. Drake had spent the previous five months writing papers and completing courses to earn his diploma. He scored a 97% on his final exam and 88% overall in the course, proving that he's unstoppable whether it's behind the mic or in the classroom.
