Dylan O'Brien had just recovered from a serious injury when he began intense combat training for his role in American Assassin.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at Comic-Con in San Diego this past weekend, the Teen Wolf star, who plays a CIA hit man in the upcoming movie, explained that the accident he suffered on the set of Maze Runner: The Death Cure made him worried about jumping back into action for American Assassin.

"The state that you're in after something like that, you just want to run from all that stuff," O'Brien shared. "I didn't really even want to leave my couch necessarily when I was allowed to, so yeah, it was a big step doing this."

"I ultimately decided that I wanted to try it and I didn't want to let it go," he added, revealing that American Assassin ultimately helped him heal. "[The film] ended up being really instrumental in the whole process."

In March 2016, O'Brien was filming a stunt for Maze Runner: The Death Cure when he was thrown from a car and struck by another vehicle, causing a concussion and several lacerations to his face. Production was shut down for months while the actor recovered.
