One Direction pumped out two albums in 2012 -- their debut, 'Up All Night,' followed mere months later by 'Take Me Home.' Continuing to strike while the iron is hot, the band were reportedly hard at work already on album No. 3 -- and now, a little bird is saying their third record is done!

And that little bird just happens to be Ed Sheeran!

When asked if he was working on their latest effort (he contributed tracks to both their debut and sophomore albums, including 'Little Things'), Sheeran denied any involvement -- and gave some more nuggets of info.

"I haven't done any songs on this one; I've actually kind of cut myself from giving any people songs at the moment, because I want to make my album," Sheeran revealed to MTV News. "I was approached, and it wasn't so much a 'No,' it was just a 'I want to write tunes for myself at the moment.' Once my album's done, then we'll see, but their album is already finished."

Though Sheeran won't appear on the record, other past 1D collaborators will, including producer Julian Bunetta, who dished on the project. "[We were] hanging out, working on a few new things. Obviously, we're working on new music, but they didn't say what the new music is for," he explained. "It might be for nothing. It might only be for my ears ... or it might be something that gets put out for the world to hear."

However, the official story from 1D's rep is a little different. "The guys are still very much working on their new album," a publicist for the band said, adding that the next album isn't merely a soundtrack for '1D: This Is Us' because "there won't be one released with the film."

Time will tell!
