Ellie Goulding gave fans an early Christmas gift this morning (December 16): A faithful and gorgeous version of the holiday classic "O Holy Night."

The "Love Me Like You Do" singer unveiled the cover on her social media accounts, writing, "I recorded this for fun and as a *christmassy* thank you for all the beautiful support I've had…" on Twitter. Goulding's third and most Top 40-leaning album to date, Delirium, dropped in November and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Her Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack contribution "Love Me Like You Do" landed her a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance, as well as an MTV VMAs nom for Best Female Video earlier this year. It's fair to say that Ellie has cause to feel a little festive.

Ellie's rendition of the 19th century Christmas carol, which has also been covered by Mariah Carey (take a listen), Celine Dion, Josh Groban among many others, is reverent and lovely — perfect for falling asleep next to the tree as snow gently carpets the ground outside. Yes, it's unseasonably warm in much of the United States right now, but we're trying to paint a picture here!

You can grab your free download of "O Holy Night" right here, and listen to the full track below. Follow that up with her live performance of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" for the 2011 White House national Christmas tree lighting, also below, for a double dose of holiday cheer.
