Elton John Hospitalized, Cancels Concerts
Elton John canceled four concerts this weekend in Las Vegas after being hospitalized for a respiratory infection. According to TMZ, the singer will rest for at least a week before attempting to resume performing.
At 6AM yesterday, the 65-year-old entertainer checked himself into Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, where he underwent a series of medical tests. Doctors advised him not to sing for a week and suggested he get "complete rest and antibiotic treatment to prevent damage."
John, who has been released from the hospital, told TMZ, "It feels strange not to be able to perform these 'Million Dollar Piano' concerts at the Colosseum ... I love performing the show and I will be thrilled when we return to the Colosseum in October to complete the 11 concerts. All I can say to the fans is, 'Sorry I can't be with you.'"
The singer has been performing his 'Million Dollar Piano' show in Vegas since last September. He was forced to cancel two shows in February after a bout of food poisoning, but his Vegas run has otherwise been successful and the concerts have consistently sold out.
Elton has spent much of the past month paying tribute to artists who recently passed away. He performed 'Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me' in honor of the Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch, and he spoke out in support of Donna Summer, calling her Rock and Roll Hall of Fame snub a "total disgrace." Now that the singer is experiencing his own health troubles, he will certainly have the music community and fans around the world rooting for his complete recovery.
