Emblem3 competed on the second season of 'X Factor,' almost notching a win with their One Direction-meets-Hot-Chelle-Rae vocal harmonies and surfer dude cool. A mere four months later, they've already dropped their first single 'Chloe (You're the One I Want).'

The Cali trio came in fourth on the show, but after seeing what those runners up in 1D did, post-'X Factor,' the future is so bright that Emblem3 have to wear shades.

Their first single finds the threesome stripped of some of that Hot Chelle Rae urban hipness in favor of some labored, b-boy rapping that feels a bit forced in the verses.

But if you can actually stick around for those choruses, well, you'll be rewarded because they are larger than life and bouncy catchy. If you aren't jumping around and dancing like a maniac once this hits the speakers, then you might want to check yourself for a pulse.

The song and its lyrics are aimed at the pre-teens that will no doubt be Emblem3 fans -- can we call 'em "E3ers?"

"Chloe, I know your sister turns everyone on / But oh baby / I have no doubt you are the one that I want" is the track's lyrical hook. Who hasn't felt second to a sister or a friend that all the guys want? This track is for the overlooked beauty of the group, one that is in desperate need of a self-esteem boost.

Emblem3 have ebullient charm and they dole out the catchiest of songs but something feels a little lost in translation here. They're a slight lessening of their initial Golden State goofiness, which was the biggest part of their appeal. They're sound a lot less like Hot Chelle Rae and a bit more like Sugar Ray on 'Chloe (You're the One That I Want),' and we miss some of the wide-eyed goofiness of their 'X Factor' days.

It's a good first official single that will capture the attention of those who don't watch the show -- it's too infectious not to. It mixes pop, pop punk and super light hip-hop in a toe-tapping blend.
