Emily Blunt has a packed resume: Actress, wife, mother, protector of Meryl Streep.

Emily stopped by the 'Late Show With David Letterman' to talk about her upcoming movie, 'Into the Woods,' and working with Meryl Streep again. (The two previously starred in 'The Devil Wears Prada.') Apparently, while filming 'Into the Woods,' Emily stepped in during a scary moment for Meryl.

"I did save her life, yes," Emily said. "We were rehearsing a scene where she's playing a witch and she's supposed to jump onto the table and with a cape and everything. And I just saw this thing happen in slow motion ... Meryl Streep's foot got caught in her cape and we just started to watch her slowly topple headfirst towards the concrete floor."

Luckily, Emily's quick on her feet!

"[Director] Rob Marshall and James Corden froze, didn't move," she recalled. "And the pregnant woman caught her!"

Emily admitted that while Meryl definitely could have been injured, she most likely wouldn't have died. Given Meryl's reputation as one of the greatest actresses to ever live, we're very grateful that she wasn't injured at all!

Watch Emily tell the harrowing tale in the video above.
