Hollywood is about to lose a little bit of its magic — but for a very good cause.

Emma Watson, who’s set to star in the 2017 live-action remake of Beauty And The Beast, plans to stop acting for a year, she told feminist icon and author bell hooks as part of a conversation published to Paper yesterday (February 18). Among her plans? Reading at least 52 books…and, you know, cultivating a true understanding of her feminist self by means of interesting conversation and lots of studying.

“I almost thought about going and doing a year of gender studies, then I realized that I was learning so much by being on the ground and just speaking with people and doing my reading,” she said. “I actually wanted to keep on the path that I’m on. I’m reading a lot this year, and I want to do a lot of listening.”

Watson says she also aims to shed light on gender disparity in the workplace through a partnership with HeForShe. As part of a new project, 10 big companies — Tupperware and Vodafone among them — have agreed to unveil typically private information about the nuts and bolts of their work forces to acknowledge potential gender-related shortcomings and work toward resolutions.

At the root of her undertakings, Watson said she hopes to help perpetuate a feeling of pride among women.

“I want to listen to as many different women in the world as I can,” she said. “I see so many women struggling with issues of self-esteem. They know and they hear it and they read it in magazines and books all the time that self-love is really important, but it’s really hard to actually do.”

What do you make of Emma’s plan to temporarily leave the industry? Read the full interview, which also includes Watson’s fascination with Harry Potter‘s Hermione, and share your thoughts.
