The show will go on, but the character won’t: Paul Walker‘s ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise character, Brian O’Conner, will be retired after ‘Fast & Furious 7.’

Sources told the Hollywood Reporter that Walker’s character will not be killed off in the seventh installment of the series, but that Brian O’Conner will obviously not be back for any subsequent sequels.

After the film’s studio, Universal, decided to move forward with the film, fans have been curious to see what’s going to happen to Walker’s character. The star died in a horrific car wreck before the movie was finished shooting, and it was unclear what would happen with his footage.

“The plan is to “retire” the character in a way that the studio hopes will satisfy fans of the franchise and make use of the existing footage of Walker,” THR reports.

In light of the tragic death of the blue-eyed hunk, director James Wan, writer Chris Morgan and Universal’s ‘Fast’ exec Jeffrey Kirschbaum pored over footage of Walker from the latest film and decided to tweak the script. The revised script will write out Brian O’Conner, but still make use of Walker’s remaining scenes. Furthermore, the franchise will still be able to continue without Walker or O’Conner.

The film, which has a release date of April 10, 2015, was delayed eight months — which will allow time for rewrites, reshoots and reworkings.

Our thoughts remain with Walker’s family, friends and colleagues as they continue to mourn his loss.
