No need to go through the hassle of surveying dark, empty campgrounds to stumble upon maddened serial killers—if a new Friday the 13th video game gets off the ground, you can be maimed and dismembered in the comfort of your own home!

According to Bloody Disgusting, Gun Media is working on Friday the 13th: The Game, an adaptation of the film franchise in which seven players will assume the role of terrified Crystal Lake camp counselors while one (...lucky?) opponent—who will play Jason—tries to mow them all down. And, to ensure the title is as true to the spirit of the films as possible, Gun Media's tapped Kane Hodder—who played Jason Voorhees—to consult on the project.

"Honestly, who else could we have chosen for the role of the killer?” Friday the 13th: The Game co-creator Wes Keltner told Bloody Disgusting. “Several people have worn the mask, but in our eyes, there was only one. Kane has the body type, the presence and demeanor that personify the unrelenting, undying killing force we’re after for [Friday the 13th: The Game]"

Still, Gun Media needs some help getting the game off the ground. They've turned to Kickstarter to raise $700,000 to fund the project (It's managed $65,000 as of October 13). Creators typically partner with publishers to help finance projects, but Friday's Kickstarter says the brains behind the operation don't want to run the risk of being censored.

"We’re not interested in compromising what made the film franchise so popular," it reads. "We’re interested in building precisely what we, as fans, want. The ultimate Friday the 13th experience. Blood, guts, gore, brutal kills, and more. You want an experience true to the films, and so do we. It’s about creative control and delivering the best game we can. We want to share that control, with you, not a publisher."

If all goes according to plan, the game will be available next fall for PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

Think Friday the 13th will be a hit with gamers, or is the concept a little too much?
