HBO Shares ‘Game of Thrones’ Cast Audition Reel at Comic Con
Feeling the withdrawals from the season finale of GoT? Well, fear not, Thronies, because we have a treat for you! A screening during the Comic Con panel for Game of Thrones on Friday showed a never-before-seen audition reel from the initial cast auditions, and it is hilarious.
The clip (below) shows early footage of actors Pedro Pascal, Natalie Dormer, Gwendoline Christie, and many others auditioning for their Game of Thrones characters—Oberyn Martell, Margaery Tyrell, and Brienne of Tarth, respectively. But obviously the best part in the clip comes when actress Rose Leslie utters Ygritte's infamous line, "You know nothing, Jon Snow." (Ygritte + Jon Snow forever!)
Other cast members who make appearances in the tape include Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei), Michiel Huisman (Daario), Liam Cunningham (Davos), and Carice van Houten (Melisandre). It's definitely entertaining to watch the actors get into character for the first time, especially since it's almost impossible to separate some of them from their character personas now. (Though to be honest, wouldn't you love to watch Peter Dinklage take on Tyrion for the first time!?)
Aside from the audition reel screening, the GoT panel at Comic Con also featured appearances from cast members, including Maisie Willians (Arya Stark) who joked about the departure of Jon Snow, "We couldn't wait for him to be gone, to be honest. That hair, that face... so annoying."
And speaking of Jon Snow, David Nutter—who directed the season 5 finale—had this to say about the prospect of Snow returning: “Three weeks ago, I was the in the company of the President of the United States. He turned to me, put his hand on my shoulder, and said, ‘You didn’t kill Jon Snow did you?’ I said, ‘Jon Snow is deader than dead.’ I thought I was going to be sent to Guantanamo or something, but fortunately I’m here – but he’s dead.”
Sure, David—we totally believe you.
