We doubt anyone was looking forward to six more weeks of winter this Groundhog Day. But, if you can believe it, something besides spring is going to take even longer to get here.

A new musical based on the Bill Murray movie Groundhog Day is set to hit Broadway in 2017.

Variety reports that the team behind the Tony Award–winning show Matilda will helm the project, including director Matthew Warchus, lyricist-composer Tim Minchin and choreographer Peter Darling. Harold Ramis and Danny Rubin, who wrote the 1993 film's screenplay, are also involved.

The show will reportedly begin previews on January 23, 2017, and will officially open on March 9, 2017.

The original Groundhog Day starred Bill Murray as cynical weatherman Phil Connors who relives February 2 over and over again in the quaint town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. (Fun fact: Screenwriter Ramis said the original idea was for Phil to be trapped in the time loop for 10,000 years, but has since said in interviews that he spent between 10 and 40 years. What a bargain!) The film, which has come to be regarded as a comedy classic, grossed $70 million.

Casting for the musical has not been announced, but wouldn't it be amazing if Bill Murray reprised his role? We can't wait to see how the film translates to the modern stage.
