Harry Potter actor Devon Murray opened up about his ten-year battle with depression earlier this week (October 10), in honor of World Mental Health Day.

The actor -- who played Gryffindor Seamus Finnigan in the film adaptations -- posted about his mental health struggles on Twitter, saying he suffered quietly from depression for years. It wasn't until he started having suicidal thoughts earlier this year that he reached out for help.

"I've been battling depression in silence for ten years & only recently spoke about it and has made a huge difference," he wrote. "I had suicidal thoughts this year and that was the kick up the arse that I needed! Open up, talk to people. If you suspect a friend or family member is suffering in silence #ReachOut to them. Let them know you care."

Fans immediately embraced the actor, offering Murray their support and sharing their own mental health struggles with the Angela’s Ashes actor.

Among his supporters was Shannon Purser -- the actress who plays fan favorite Barb on Stranger Things -- who applauded Murray for his transparency and admitted to seeking help for her own struggles, too.

"Wow!! After my tweets regarding my own #mentalhealth the amount of people saying I was the first person they told about their own is amazing," Murray wrote, a day after his admission. "I'm so happy that from me opening up it helped so many of you find the strength to. We are all loved and cared about by those around us. I'm also so thankful for all the kind messages of support yesterday. So much love for you all."
