Britney Spears fanatics went wild Tuesday morning (March 27) when they got the good news that their pop queen's decade-long conservatorship might finally be coming to an end. But where, exactly did it start?

Ten years ago, fresh off a public meltdown and divorce from Kevin Federline, Brit Brit was in a rough place. Still, 2008 proved to be a bit of a redemption by its end, and upon the release of Circus, Spears proved she still had hits in her — "Womanizer," "Circus" and "If U Seek Amy" were all massive.

And yet, her father and lawyer remained in control of some of her life's biggest decisions.

“[Britney's father Jamie] is actively consulting with Britney’s medical team to determine if the conservatorship of Britney as the person should finally come to an end,” a source told the site. “It’s just a question of timing as she is about to begin the tour, so the thinking is to do it at the conclusion.”

Another source added: "She is feeling confident enough to take control of her life again...The progress Britney has made just in the last several years has been tremendous.”

Still, we'd be remiss to forget Brit's history, and how far she's come. Look back at a collection of photos of Britney 10 years ago in 2008, at which point her conservatorship began, and be sure to share your reaction to the latest Britney news in the comments.
