‘Hidden Fences?’ Jenna Bush Mixes Up ‘Hidden Figures’ and ‘Fences’ During Golden Globes Pharrell Interview

Let’s get one thing straight: “Hidden Fences” is not nominated for a Golden Globe. In fact, it’s not even a movie.

NBC correspondent Jenna Bush Hager, daughter of former president George W. Bush, suffered a huge gaffe on the 2017 Golden Globe Awards red carpet on Sunday, January 8, when she combined the films Hidden Figures and Fences—two high profile nominated films starring and focused on the stories of people of color—while interviewing Pharrell.

“So, you’re nominated for ‘Hidden Fences’,” the correspondent told Pharrell, who is nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score for his work on the Hidden Figures soundtrack.

The “Happy” singer-songwriter did not correct Bush for her blunder, though he appeared visibly shocked by the mix up. Watch below:

Hidden Figures stars Janelle Monae, Octavia Spencer and Taraji P. Henson and recounts the incredible true story of the real-life black women who helped NASA catch up in the “Space Race” of the late 1960s. Fences, meanwhile, is set in 1950s Pittsburgh and stars Denzel Washington and Viola Davis.

Unfortunately, the error was repeated later in the evening by presenter Michael Keaton who, while handing out the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture, also referred to to the film Hidden Figures as “Hidden Fences.” (However, it’s important to note that Keaton was reading off a teleprompter.)

Naturally, Twitter lit up with responses to the blunder, and “Hidden Fences” began trending. Below, see some reactions from across the social media site:
