Hilary Duff has shared her heartbreak about something many animal lovers can relate to (including Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus, several times over): Her dog Beau has died.

"I am shattered in a million pieces today because my baby Frenchie Beau has gone to doggy heaven this afternoon," the former Lizzie McGuire star wrote on an Instagram post yesterday (January 13).

Duff, who's TVLand show Younger enters its second season tonight, has posted many adorable shots of Beau since she first adopted him back in 2014. She says she's got more memories to share — but the pain is too fresh to look back just yet. "[As] of now I can't even bear to look at a photo of his little face that melted me every time." Duff posted a picture of the pup chewing on some books just two weeks ago.

"I can't fathom never holding his heavy little head in my hands with his two big eyes looking at me again," Duff continued in her tribute. "Remember every day to be grateful for what we have that makes our hearts happy and full. My naughty boy I will miss you so. Heart. Broken."

On behalf of pet owners and French bulldog lovers everywhere, our hearts go out to Hilary. Here's hoping there's a pile of delicious dog bones and no oppressive vet carriers in doggie heaven.
