E! News caught up with Hilary Duff last night at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, where the former 'Lizzie McGuire' actress opened up about her split from husband Mike Comrie back in January.

When asked about the current state of their relationship, Duff was aware of the public's confusion about their marriage status. "We're constantly seen together and everyone's like, 'What are they doing? Are they back together? Are they not?'"

"We're really good friends and we have so much respect for each other, and, obviously, Luca [the couple's two-year-old son] is our number one priority," she continued. "I think we got to a point where we were like, 'We really need to honor happiness.' Whatever that is, and however we need to sort that out or work that out, we're doing that."

Duff later admitted that they are genuinely happy to be around each other and that their smiles are not just for Luca's sake.

A report earlier in April suggested that Duff and Comrie were working on a reconciliation and were spotted attending Coachella together. In the months leading to the announced split-up, the couple were reportedly in couples therapy, but ultimately decided that a separation would be best.

Given that Duff and Comrie are amicable to each other and are working things out, Aaron Carter might have his work cut out for him on his mission to win Hilary back.
