We at PopCrush take pride in our attention to detail. That being said, Lee Daniels announced that Mariah Carey will be on Season 2 of Empire this afternoon and we totally missed it. Oops.

While honoring Carey at a presentation of the singer's brand new star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Daniels told a crowd of devoted lambs that they should be excited to watch the Grammy-winner on his hit FOX show, E! reported. He didn't provide any details beyond that—and told Variety "I’m already in trouble with my publicist" for letting the announcement slip—but noted he can't wait to work with the woman who's a consummate professional.

"She has certainly proven herself, good Lord. Repeatedly,” he said. “I’m very excited to see where she goes on Empire."

Carey and Daniels have previously worked together on Precious and Lee Daniels' The Butler.

If the "Infinity" singer's role is real, she'll very likely join Kelly Rowland, who's rumored to be a part of the coming episodes, and Lenny Kravitz, Chris Rock, Alicia Keys and Oprah, whose parts have all been confirmed. Better watch your back, Cookie!

Empire premieres on September 23 and will air 18 episodes that are broken into two nine-episode arcs.

What do you think—will Mariah make a good addition to Empire? Sound off on the Season 2 casting news!
