Time's up, people—the Independence Day sequel is nearly upon us.

It's been nearly twenty years since the sci-fi mega-blockbuster Independence Day graced movie theater screens around the nation and made declaring "checkmate" a meme before, well, memes. Starring Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum (excuse me while I swoon), Vivica A. Fox, and Bill Pullman, the Roland Emmerich film grossed $817 million at the box office and became an instant popcorn flick and sci-fi/pop culture classic, despite its admittedly cheesy writing and overly nationalistic tone.

Since then, constant television airings and DVD sales have only increased the collective guilty pleasure love for the film, and many have been wondering for years, "Hey, where's the sequel?"

But wonder no more, friends, because the trailer for the film's long-awaited and much-delayed sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence, is finally here.

In the trailer, we are once again introduced to Jeff Goldblum's brainy, handsomely salt-n-peppered David Levinson (sorry, brb—swooning again) who warns in a dramatic voice-over, "I spent twenty years trying to get us ready for this. We used their technology to strengthen our planet, but it wont be enough..."

Yes, folks, the aliens are back again, and according to the trailer, they are bigger and badder than ever, and even more hellbent on taking over Earth once and for all. Someone who's not back though? Will Smith—who according to Emmerich was "too expensive" to cast.

Despite his absence, the cast of Resurgence looks strong nonetheless, with Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Sela Ward, and Charlotte Gainsbourg all joining the flick along with many actors from the original cast.

Independence Day: Resurgence is set to hit theaters on June 24, 2016.
