J. Cole Returns For His Second RESPECT. Cover

RESPECT.

What a difference a year makes for J. Cole. A year ago, the Roc Nation artist had the No. 1 album with ‘Cole World: The Sideline Story’ and graced the cover of RESPECT. magazine’s two-year anniversary issue. Now Hollywood Cole comes back for the magazine’s three-year anniversary issue.

On the cover, J. Cole, who is draped in a Jesus piece necklace and wearing a motorcycle jacket, gives a brooding pose while holding a skull in his hand. Judging by the cover line, ‘The Trouble with Success,’ the North Carolina MC will probably discuss some of the downsides that came with his newfound success. It’s a cold world out there and J. Cole has a story to tell.

RESPECT. magazine’s third anniversary issue with J. Cole on the cover will hit newsstands on Nov. 27.

Meanwhile, J. Cole has announced that his second album ‘Born Sinner’ will not be ready for a Jan. 28 release as originally planned. The 27-year-old rhyme-spitter wants to pursue promotional and branding opportunities to coincide with the project. “In a perfect world, I’ll shoot for January 28,” Cole told Billboard. “But even when I released that [info], honestly I knew that it was very far-fetched.” Cole is also planning to shoot in December a short film that will be “more expansive than a music video.”

His latest single is ‘Miss America,’ which is a biting social commentary track about the state of America. While the hard-hitting song isn’t as radio-friendly as his previous tunes like ‘Can’t Get Enough,’ Cole felt it was important for him to used his voice for social change.

“We have a responsibility and a certain power that comes with making the music and playing the music, and that comes with a responsibility to keep things fresh, and not to fall into the mold of what’s traditional,” he says. “I have singles that fall into that [mold], but if I can use my power in some kind of way, I’m going to try to use it to shift culture just a little bit.”

There’s no sin in that.
