The Top 5 of Season 12 of 'American Idol' has been reduced to a Top 4 as Janelle Arthur was eliminated.

Only five girls remained at the top of tonight's (April 18) episode, which means that the show will have a female winner for the first time since Jordin Sparks. It's been a while since a lady took the crown. Sadly, Arthur won't be the female to do it, as she was sent home.

The cute country blonde sang a ballad-y version of 'You Keep Me Hangin' On' for the save. Her four fellow females were standing on the side of the stage as she sang, obviously pulling for her. It feels like there is quite a sisterhood among the Top 5, even though they are all fighting for the same thing.

During what we would be Arthur's swan song, the camera panned to the judges conferring about whether or not to spend the sole save of the season on her. That thing is in a vice grip, and the judges refused to use it as the boys were picked off one by one each week. They continue to cling to it, with Randy Jackson revealing the panel was split in half over whether to keep Arthur or let her go. Since it must be unanimous, she could not be saved.

We had a feeling that the judges knew the girls were superior this season and held onto the save for moments like this, since the Top 5 was so freakin' strong.

With Arthur out, only Candice Glover, Kree Harrison, Amber Holcomb and Angie Miller remain. We bet the judges use that solitary save on one of these ladies next week.
