Janet Jackson Reportedly Facing Throat Cancer Scare (Update: Janet Responds)
UPDATE (1/6): False alarm! Janet doesn't have cancer — and she wants you to know straight from her lips. Tonight, the icon posted a snippet of her Unbreakable track "The Great Forever" on Twitter with a note at the end.
"Remember...believe it when you hear it from my lips. The rumors are untrue. I do not have cancer. I'm recovering. My doctors have approved my concerts as scheduled in Europe, and as I promised, the postponed shows will be rescheduled. Thank you for your prayers and love," she wrote. Phew!

In what we hope is ultimately a false alarm, Janet Jackson is reportedly facing a scary medical diagnosis. The singer has a growth on her vocal cords that's potentially malignant, if gossip site Radar Online's sources are to be believed.
"Doctors found a growth on Janet’s vocal cords that could be serious,” a person who is allegedly close to the situation told Radar. “It’s a medical condition that has to be taken care of immediately.”
The "No Sleeep" artist broke the news that she needed an operation on December 24. "I need you to know, I learned today, from my doctors that I must have surgery soon," Jackson wrote in a message to fans. "It breaks my heart to tell you that I am forced to postpone the Unbreakable Tour until the spring." Whether the outcome of the surgery will affect the status of the postponed-not-canceled tour remains to be seen.
"Please pray for me, my family and our entire company during this difficult time," she continued in her Christmas Eve message. "There will be no further comment. I love you all so much and am ever grateful for your understanding and your love. Gon’ b alright.”
Jackson also canceled a handful of dates in the fall due to vocal rest, but this writer — who caught the show at the Chicago Theatre in November — can tell attest that seeing Janet live is well worth the wait. We wish Miss Jackson a positive prognosis, and a recovery that's as seamless as possible.
