We're still processing Jason Derulo and Jordin Sparks' surprising breakup, but already, both singers have spoken out about the demise of their relationship.

When Jason Derulo stopped by radio station Power 105.1, he not only addressed the split, but also wanted to set the record straight about the reasons the two called it quits.

"We had our problems in our relationship, you know what I'm saying? Every relationship has their ups and downs," Derulo explained. "When you start having more downs than ups, you have to take a look at your relationship and be like, 'Is this something that I'm supposed to be doing?'"

"Just small things … added up," he continued. I work really hard, I'm all over the world, when I come home, the last thing you want to do is argue. And when it's more arguing than having a good time, you just have to take a look at it, like, 'Yo, is this healthy?'"

Derulo also explained that the pressure to get engaged did not help.

"There was a lot of pressure from the marriage perspective," Derulo revealed -- though one of the DJs quickly pointed out that he penned the song 'Marry Me' for Sparks.

"The song was saying, 'Yeah, when the time is right,'" he clarified. "We have something amazing, but when the time is right, it's gonna be even more amazing."

And just in case you were wondering, the split was not caused by infidelity or problems in the couple's sex life. ("It wasn't a problem in that area at all," he said).

"The situation was going on for a long time. I've been feeling like this for a long time," the 'Wiggle' singer revealed, adding that he broke up with his girlfriend of three years over the phone because he was out of town.

For her part, Sparks has kept a quieter profile following the breakup, telling 'TODAY' hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hota Kotb that she has a positive outlook on the situation.

"I'm good, actually," Sparks said (quote via Us Weekly). "I read this quote and it said, 'When something unexpected happens in your life, or you think something bad happens, just say 'Plot twist!' and move on.'"

We're loving that sentiment.
