Several months after the end of 'Sam & Cat,' Jennette McCurdy is starring in a new TV series very different from her Nickelodeon past.

McCurdy is set to star in the Canadian thriller series 'Between,' which details a town overrun by a "mysterious illness" that has destroyed anyone over the age of 21, Deadline reports. The citizens of the town (now all 21 and under) have to figure out how to survive after the government quarantines a 10-mile radius in the village. According to the site, 'Between' will premiere on two different Canadian networks, as well as on Netflix outside of Canada. The series is set to begin production today (Oct. 20).

The role will definitely be a different one for the former Nickelodeon actress, who also created, wrote and starred in the web series 'What's Next for Sarah' following the cancelation of 'Sam & Cat.'

For seven years, McCurdy starred on Nickelodeon as Sam Puckett -- first in the sitcom 'iCarly' and later reprising her role opposite Ariana Grande on 'Sam & Cat.'
