The Super Bowl is all about fun times and mirth and merriment. But Super Bowl XLVII kicked off with an emotional moment of incredible weight, when the Sandy Hook Student Chorus from Newton, Conn. stepped onto the field to sing 'America the Beautiful' at tonight's (Feb. 3) big game. The children sang the song on their own before being joined by diva Jennifer Hudson.

The student chorus reminded us of those beautiful babies who were tragically lost in December in a senseless act of violence. Having the kids perform was another way to remember and honor those angels now in heaven.

The cherubic voices of the chorus set the stage for Hudson, who looked stunning in a long-sleeved, black leather top and a white pencil skirt with black buttons on the front. She's kept the weight off and she's as stunning as ever.

J. Hud sang another round of the song, while the students, a mix of boys and girls, danced behind her, stepping back and forth. It was beyond precious. The choir sang with Hudson to close out the heartwarming rendition. The chorus was comprised of 26 singers, since 26 students and teachers were gunned down in the tragedy. So it's as though each victim was given a voice.

Remember, Hudson herself was the victim of a similar tragedy, as her mother, brother and seven-year-old nephew were shot to death in 2008.

Kudos to the NFL for paying for the airfare of the students to take part in the nation's biggest entertainment event, helping the healing process and keeping the tragedy in the forefront of our minds.
