Months of non-stop arguing is reportedly the root cause of the shocking split between Latin power couple Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony. The duo are parents to twins, Max and Emme, who are 3, and the well-being of the children was of utmost importance to the soon-to-be-ex couple.

The couple's statement to the press about their split was terse, reading: "We have decided to end our marriage. This was a very difficult decision. We have come to an amicable conclusion on all matters."

However, in the aftermath of the shocking news, a source told PEOPLE that "Marc and Jennifer decided it's best to go their separate ways for the sake of their two kids." Immediately post-split, Anthony was in Colombia performing, where his only acknowledgment of the breaking news was "They're saying I'm single." Lopez, on the other hand, was working on her new fashion line for Kohl's -- shooting an ad in Los Angeles. The source said that Lopez "is, of course, sad that she and Marc didn't work out, but they both feel they have tried everything."

The Huffington Post reports that couple's multi-faceted business empire was a contributing cause of the split. While Anthony is touring and spent the summer filming 'HawthoRNe,' the TNT medical drama starring Jada Pinkett Smith, Lopez was committed to 'Idol,' her new album 'Love?' and myriad of fragrances and fashion projects. Even though Lopez is more high profile than her husband in the US, both appeared to be putting work first, spreading themselves a bit too thin.

"I don’t know any relationship that could survive the juggling of schedules of both Jennifer and Marc," an industry insider told The Huff Post. "Unfortunately, knowing both Jen [and] Marc, I can tell you that neither of them is capable of putting their career on hold when a great or big paying opportunity comes along." If that is indeed the case, maybe there is hope for a reconciliation. Maybe not.
