Jennifer Lopez is currently showing up on our small screens as a returning judge on Season 13 of ‘American Idol,’ a gig she held in 2011 and 2012. The singer/actress/designer/reality show star aka quadruple threat, who is also the mom of twins, is also returning to episodic television, as she will star in and executive produce the NBC cop drama ‘Shades of Blue.’

J. Lo as a cop? Is she going to be chasing bad guys in sky high heels? Not really… although she did sorta do that in a Kohl’s commercial.

According to E!, Lopez, who also starred in ‘Second Chances’ back in 1994, will tackle the role of Harlee McCord in the 13-episode first season of the series. The role is deep and meaty; she will play a single mother and a detective who works undercover for the FBI’s anti-corruption task force.

In her new job, she is mightily conflicted, working against fellow cops to redeem herself. Combine that with her role as a mother and she’s got a busy, crazy and exciting life.

This already sounds like quite a juicy gig for La Lopez.

Ryan Seacrest, who is the host of ‘Idol,’ is also serving as a producer on the show.

‘Shades of Blue’ is the first scripted drama for Seacrest, who produces plenty of E! reality shows, such as ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ and ‘The Wanted Life.’ He admitted that his team “jumped at the chance to collaborate with such amazing partners.”

The ‘Crest called the script “powerful and ambitious” and he gushed about Lopez taking on a “remarkable role.”

The show might not debut until the 2015-2016 TV season.

Detective J. Lo?! We’re loving that concept. She did play a cop in 2001′s ‘Angel Eyes’ and has adopted tough girl roles, so it’s not that much of a stretch.

Lopez also exec produces the ABC Family series ‘The Fosters,’ which features an unconventional nuclear family and is critically acclaimed.
