On tonight's (July 19) season finale of Season 1 of 'Duets,' country superstar Jennifer Nettles took the stage with her other amateur singing partner J. Rome for the last time. It's been quite the journey, one that isn't likely to end just because their season is. The terrific twosome engaged in an upbeat, buttery, backyard BBQ version of El DeBarge's 'Rhythm of the Night,' a song which is smack dab in J. Rome's wheelhouse.

He has been a favorite to win the first season of 'Duets' since the first time he opened his mouth, thanks to his contemporary and modern style.

Rome is known for being stylistically and vocally similar to Usher. However, he did take plenty of chances and tried other genres and styles this season. But for his final performance, which had no voting (and therefore no consequences) attached to it, he did what he wanted to do, and that was just fine with us.

He voice cracked on a few notes and this was definitely not his best performance, but we can cut him a break, since week after week, he turned in performances that made us go, "Yeah, he's got this. He will win."
