On August 20, 2015, JoJo became one of the first, if not the very first, artist to release three new singles simultaneously. "When Love Hurts," "Save My Soul," and "Say Love" were packaged together on an EP titled III and became affectionately known as a "tringle."

All three singles have received the music video treatment, yet it was recently announced that "When Love Hurts" will serve as the lead single from JoJo's forthcoming as-of-yet-untitled third album.

JoJo appeared as the musical guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last night (December 1) to perform her new-ish single.

Fallon introduces JoJo by reminding the audience of her most notable past accomplishment to date: being the youngest artist—at a mere 13 years old—to have a single hit number one on the Billboard Top 40 chart.

JoJo feels her Christina Aguilera-inspired oats during the performance, turning it out in a black and white abstract polka-dotted blazer and pants, with a black crop top underneath. She starts off soft, eyes closed, eventually clapping and snapping along with the beat in the first verse.

But when the chorus arrives, she totally serves us some realness. With on-point hand gestures fit for a drag queen lip syncing for her life, JoJo offers audiences an undeniably soulful and catchy sing-along, thanks in no small part to perfect accompaniment from The Roots. As a result, their combined efforts make it impossible for us not to join in when she belts, "When love hurts, that's how you know it's real."
