Jonas Brothers Take New Direction in Songwriting for Upcoming Album
The Jonas Brothers are back, and based on ‘Wedding Bells,’ they sound better than ever. That’s in part because the band is taking a brand new approach to songwriting for their upcoming record.
“We’ve taken on a completely different approach to songwriting. We’re doing it all ourselves. I’m producing it, we’re writing it and we’re performing it,” Nick said. “It really is all about what’s happening with the three of us in the studio. We’re in a season now, as artists, of really taking control of our destiny and deciding what our next moves are. It something we’re really, really proud of. But it’s also one of those things we tread carefully, but we have great fans to support us.”
“We’re talking about some really real subjects and things that are meaningful to us both in the present time, in the past, and it’s just now out there for people to hear,” Nick Jonas told MTV News. “That’s the great thing about being an artist, is you can create and then share later.”
Those “real subjects” from the past likely include Nick’s infamously on-and-off relationship with fellow former Disney star Miley Cyrus, widely rumored to be the inspiration behind ‘Wedding Bells.’ MTV noted that there are a lot of clues in the song that it’s about Cyrus, including the lyric “If you recall our anniversary falls / Eleven nights into June.” Niley fans may remember in Cyrus’ autobiography, ‘Miles to Go,’ that she wrote, “I remember the exact date, June 11, 2006. It was the day I met my first love. Let’s call him Prince Charming.”
That inspiration mixed with their new methodology and do-it-yourself attitude for the record, and the boys are excited about it. ”It feels really good,” Kevin said. “It’s been a long time coming. We’ve all been doing some individual stuff and on our own journeys, but now we’re coming back together, and the [Radio City] show [was] kind of the kickoff to that.”
