Whitney Houston will be saluted posthumously with the Billboard Millennium Award at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. Along with the honor, chart-topping artists Jordin Sparks and John Legend will perform songs in memory the late pop icon who passed away in February.

Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina and sister-in-law and former manager Pat Houston will be on hand to accept the award for Nippy.

Sparks is the perfect choice for the tribute since she co-starred with Houston in the upcoming flick 'Sparkle,' which opens in theaters on Aug. 17. The 'No Air' singer was thankful to be part of Houston's life on and off the set. “For me as a singer growing up listening to her, to be able to do a song with her is incredible," she said. "And being her friend, just hearing how she sounded, it was amazing. So I can’t wait for people to hear that. I cannot wait."

Houston follows behind previous Millennium honorees including Beyonce, who cites Houston as a major influence in her music and career.

The BMAs is shaping up to be a spectacular event. So far, Chris Brown, Kelly Clarkson, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Usher, Carrie Underwood, LMFAO, The Wanted, Cee Lo Green and others will hit the stage to perform.

The 2012 Billboard Music Awards will air live from Las Vegas on May 20 at 8PM ET on ABC. Don't miss it!
