Jordin Sparks has been tapped to sing 'The Star-Spangled Banner' at the 137th running of the Kentucky Derby, which will take place May 7 at the Churchill Downs racetrack in Louisville.

Sparks' performance of the national anthem will air live around 5:10PM ET as part of NBC's coverage of the renowned horse race. Previously, the Season Six 'American Idol' champ famously sang 'The Star-Spangled Banner' at Super Bowl XLII in her hometown of Glendale, Ariz., in February 2008.

Sparks sings the song 'The World I Knew,' which appears in the recently released Disneynature film 'African Cats.' The video for the tune debuted a few weeks ago.

The singer is also set to be the opening act on the joint tour of New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys, otherwise known as NKOTBSB. The North American trek kicks off May 25 in Rosemont, Ill., and wraps up July 1 in Los Angeles.
