The pressure is on on the 'X Factor' set as the final three contestants battle it out for the big win -- a $5 million recording contract -- and the trio couldn't be more varied. Singer-songwriter Josh Krajcik kicked off Wednesday's performances with a '90s-inspired tune, Alanis Morissette's 'Uninvited'... accompanied by a special guest.

Truth be told, the performance was anticlimactic, even with the help of the 'Ironic' singer herself, who came out within the first minute of the tune. Nevertheless, Josh seems to have maintained his stature as a fan and judge favorite.

"I'm most proud of you because not only did you hold your own but you kept your identity and integrity throughout," Paula Abdul told the hopeful after he and the rock icon wrapped their duet.

Simon Cowell, ever the pessimist, reminded his fellow judges that they are supposed to be doing just that -- judging. "We've got to judge this -- Alanis, amazing. Josh, I thought you were a little bit intimidated at the beginning, I would be. There's a lot at stake here," he said, misleading the audience before adding, "It was an 8 out of 10."

Nicole Scherzinger kept her cool and praised Krajcik to the highest, which made us wonder if perhaps she witnessed a different performance.

Each of the contestants have the chance to deliver two songs during the Wednesday night hour-and-a-half slot before the winner is announced on Thursday's finale.
