Justin Bieber Sets the Record Straight on Baby Rumors on ‘Today’
A sleepy Justin Bieber appeared on 'Today' this morning to chat about his new 'Under the Mistletoe' Christmas album, the promotion of which has sadly been diluted by rumors that the 17-year-old pop icon fathered a baby with a 20-year-old California girl. The Biebs made sure to "set the record straight" and deny that he has ever even met Mariah Yeater.
"I'd just like to say basically that none of those allegations are true. I know that I'm going to be a target, but I'm never going to be a victim," the 'Baby' singer told the hosts matter-of-factly.
He explained that realistically, having sex with this girl backstage would have been impossible. "It's crazy, every night after the show I've gone right from the stage right to my car, so it's crazy that some people want to make up such false allegations. To set the record straight, none of it is true."
Host Matt Lauer pushed the envelope a little bit more, asking Bieber straight up, "Do you know this woman? Her name is Mariah Yeater?" to which Biebs replied quickly, "Never met the woman."
The teen heartthrob, whose heart belongs to fellow star Selena Gomez, also shared that the proceeds of his holiday effort will go to many charities -- including the food bank that once helped his own family eat on Christmas day. If nothing else, the Biebs doesn't want his philanthropy to be trumped by silly rumors, and he won't fall victim to them.
Motioning to the growing crowd around him, he said one last time, "Here's the thing: There's going to be goods and bads to this business. I want to just focus on what's real. You know, my fans are real, the charity work that I'm doing for this album is real, and this is real."
Bieber will perform a full set on 'Today' on Thanksgiving Eve, Nov. 23.
