Justin Bieber wasn't the musical guest on The Late Late Show with James Corden last night (May 12), but he did make a surprise appearance to remind us all that Bieb can play the drums.

At the close of Tuesday evening's show, the new Late Late Show host thanked his guests (James Corden has a wonderfully British way of pronouncing "Susan Sarandon"). After commending the "incredible" Tori Kelly following her performance of  "Nobody Love" from her upcoming Unbreakable Smile debut, Corden asked the band to play him out. As bandleader and bizarro comedian Reggie Watts launched into a jazzy scat, the camera revealed Justin and his new hair holding it down behind the drum set.

It was the "Beauty and a Beat" singer's most notable drumming moment since his Calvin Klein campaign earlier this year, though Beliebers may be sad to learn that he kept it casual and far more clothed in a gray hoodie — he wouldn't want to completely steal the spotlight from his friend and colleague Tori. You can watch Bieber's jam session in the video above.

Justin's mellow cameo was endearing, and it was just the most recent public showing of good behavior as he continues to make amends for his previous missteps. He recently spoke to Seventeen about his bygone legal and interpersonal woes (the sad kind, not the Drake kind). “I was rebelling a little bit,” he said (quotes via The Guardian). “I was getting cockier and cockier. I didn’t have people to check me. I looked back and I was disappointed in myself.”
