Justin Bieber Talks Hailey Baldwin and the Meaning of ‘Sorry’ in GQ

GQ is officially ready to forgive Justin Bieber, and they’re asking you to do the same.

The “Sorry” singer landed the cover story of the famed men’s magazine, whose headline reads “Let us now forgive Justin Bieber.” And while it seems the general public has largely moved on from Bieber’s past numerous misdeeds (including but not limited to: numerous legal infractions, videos surfacing online showing him sharing racist jokes and slurs, and generally exhibiting the insufferable personality of an overprivileged teenager), it’s unlikely he’ll ever fully escape them — especially if he continues to get kicked out of ancient archaeological sites for disrespectful behavior.

In any case, the magazine says the profile focuses on Bieber’s are-they-or-aren’t-they relationship with Hailey Baldwin (“Someone I really love. We spend a lot of time together”), his faith and finally growing out of his teen years.

Bieber also clarifies some misconceptions about his track “Sorry,” for people who somehow think it’s an apology song for all the wrong he’s done in his life.

“People ran with that,” he told GQ writer Caity Weaver. “—that I was like, apologizing with that song and stuff. It really had nothing to do with that…It was about a girl.”

Bieber also says he wouldn’t change all the terrible things that will forever live in his past, because they’ve helped shape who he is now: “Everyone when they start growing up realizes, ‘Man, I did some dumb sh—t when I was younger.’ It’s not just me…If I could go back I wouldn’t really change much. I think it’s all my journey. That stuff made me who I am.”

Head over to GQ to read the full story when it goes live on February 11.
