Justin Bieber is guilty of giving Bieber Fever, but is he also behind another medical problem?

Docs are reporting that Bieber's former signature hairstyle -- his sideswept, shaggy bangs -- may be behind an increase in lazy eyes. Say what?!

One expert ophthalmologist told Australia's The Daily Telegraph that the popular style could cause amblyopia, the fancy medical name for a lazy eye. "If a young emo chap has a fringe covering one eye all the time, that eye won't see a lot of detail," Andrew Hogan, a national executive member of the Optometrists Association, told The Daily Telegraph. "And if it happens from a young age, that eye can become amblyotic."

Sound wonky? Hogan explains, "If you walk around with an eye patch on all day, then that eye will end up seeing more poorly than the other eye." Hogan also added that if the hair-eyepatch limits access to sunlight, it can also result in short-sightedness.

Hogan isn't the only one warning about Bieber bangs. A veteran hairdresser told the Telegraph that the sweep could bring on posture problems. How? According to the stylist, it makes kids tilt their heads to one side. She griped, "I have to wonder how they don't get a stiff neck." We dunno, maybe by just ... moving their hair out of the way?

In any case, most of these issues are pretty unfounded. Another ophthalmologist waved the claims off and said they're "silly."

Hear that, Biebs? You can put the gel away now!
