Celebrities often use their fame and fortune to help others, and Justin Bieber is one of the most prolific philanthropists of the pop world. His mentor Usher does the same, as do Jordin Sparks and Nelly Furtado, and these stars are getting the recognition they deserve for their efforts.

This year, the Billboard Music Awards are honoring charitable celebs and asked the aforementioned stars to share their thoughts on the act and art of giving. In turn, their charities of choice could be gifted with a $20,000 donation.

The Biebs admits that he feels blessed and therefore has an obligation to give back. He said, "If I am not giving back, I don't think I am doing my job." He also said that hearing his fans say he helps him get through chemo, since he visits lots of cancer patients, is one of "the things that matters and makes what I do so special." Pencils of Promise and Make-a-Wish are his favorites charitable initiatives.

Usher sponsors the New Look Foundation, but he has also worked with Make-a-Wish. He gets pleasure out of encouraging people to pursue what they want to do in life. Usher wants to motivate people while simultaneously providing both opportunities and support that they may not get elsewhere as a matter of circumstance.

The lovely Sparks is behind I'm M.A.D. Are You? And said that she wanted to use what she does for good. She admitted to having a soft spot for kids, while Furtado supports Free the Children.
