Kanye West Blames Himself for Album of the Year Grammy Snub
At the Chicago stop of his Watch the Throne tour, Kanye West took a moment to reflect on his recent seven nominations for the upcoming Grammy Awards in February. Although Yeezy garnered rap nods for his albums 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' and 'Watch the Throne,' he was shut out of the coveted Album of the Year category.
During Thursday night's show (Dec. 1), West only blamed himself for the Recording Academy's glaring omission. "Something I figured out early today -- because you know, everybody came up to me last night like, ‘Congratulations!’ because you know I’m leading the Grammy nominations this year. Like we always do it this time,” he told the audience.
West continued, "But, people focus, they say 'You ain’t got album of the year or record of the year.' But I figured out, that’s my fault for dropping 'Watch the Throne' and 'Dark Fantasy' the same year. I should have just spaced it out a little bit more." He then added, "But don’t worry, because me and Hov gon’ keep on making s---t." We are happy that West is taking his Grammy snub in stride and didn't go into a temper tantrum.
Altogether, Yeezy garnered mentions in the Song of the Year, Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration categories for 'All of the Lights.' His LP 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy' was nominated for Best Rap Album. Finally, West and Jay-Z share nominations for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for 'Otis,' as well as Best Rap Album for 'Watch the Throne.'
CBS will air the 54th annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 12 at 8PM EST.
