Kanye West Says He and Taylor Swift Are ‘Definitely’ Working on Music Together
The rapper called in to ‘On Air With Ryan Seacrest‘ and dished all about the 2015 Grammy Awards, his real thoughts on Beck, and why he’s eager to hit the studio with T. Swift.
“She wants to get into the studio, and we’re definitely gonna go in,” Kanye revealed about the “Blank Space’ singer. “Any artist with an amazing point of view, perspective, fan base, I’m down to get into the studio and work. I don’t discriminate; I don’t have an elitism of music because of how many Grammys or the amount of ratings you get on an album. … If I could be involved in giving people any type of energy, advice in the studio, whether you’re Beyonce, whether you’re Taylor Swift, whether you’re Jay Z, whether you’re Beck, whoever, and they can be reciprocal with that, I’d like to be involved with that.”
As if that wasn’t shocking enough, he also revealed that after he jokingly attempted to steal Beck’s Grammy, Taylor actually encouraged him to go on stage.
“Taylor Swift came up to me right afterwards — literally right afterwards — and tells me I should’ve went on stage,” Kanye said, joking, “This is the irony of my life.”
And speaking of that pivotal moment during Album of the Year, Kanye explained that it was “the voices in my head [that] told me to go up.”
“What I really wanted to do was joke around with what happened before [at the 2009 VMAs with Taylor Swift] but I really didn’t want to take away from Beck’s moment or time to talk,” he said. “… First of all, Beck is one of the nicest guys and the most respected musicians in the game.” Later referring to his “respect artistry” comment, Kanye admitted that he misspoke.
“It came off the wrong way mis-wording on my part, because obviously Beck is one of the most respected artists and respects artistry,” he told Ryan Seacrest, explaining that he said the comment to E! News because he was “given a platform.”
“I sat there and I let that smolder and I was asked my opinion and given a platform,” he said, explaining that he was now going to refer to himself in “the third person like a crazy person.”
“And when given a platform,” Kanye explained, “it’s very hard for Kanye West to not be very true and vocal to what he feels.”
