Katy Perry's Coachella Festival chic on Friday (April 12) came screaming from the '90s.

The singer wore a cute, flowered mini dress and paired it with chunky black boots. It reminded us of the riot grrrls of that period, who paired femme dresses with clunky combat boots to show their alternately girly and tough sides. On Perry, this look certainly worked. She kept cool in the Cali desert, thanks to a light frock, and the utilitarian footwear makes navigating the festival easier. You don't want to wear flip flops and end up with muddied tootsies that get stomped on by people dancing or walking.

Doesn't she look adorbs in her sun hat, which protects her hair and scalp from the unforgiving sun, and that messy side braid?

The newly single 'Wide Awake' singer is summery and cute when posing with an equally summer-ready and cute pal. We're glad she isn't at home, seeking out the bottom of multiple pints of Ben & Jerry's, nursing her heartbreak over splitting with John Mayer. It's good to get out and see some live music.
