At least one good thing is coming from Katy Perry's divorce -- new songs. The Sun reports that Perry has been using her heartbreak as inspiration for her next album.

Perry's been keeping a diary since the problems in her marriage first emerged towards the end of 2011. Perry draws upon her journals when writing her lyrics, and she plans to use her split as fodder for her third record. A source told the Sun, "She has always said that writing is almost a form of therapy for her and she would often be found in her dressing room on tour writing in her diary."

The source reports that in addition to splashing around the beach this Christmas, that's also what Perry was up to in Hawaii. "She spent a lot of time in Hawaii over Christmas writing lyrics to two of her latest tracks," the source claimed.

Perry's lashed out at exes through song before. Her track 'Circle the Drain,' off of 'Teenage Dream,' was said to be about former flame Travie McCoy's addiction to prescription drugs.

Perry is scheduled to make her first post-split appearance at the People's Choice Awards on Jan. 11, and is rumored to be planning a trip with BFF Rihanna. Here's hoping she writes some happy tracks, too -- they tend to chart better than her sad songs, and they'll help her earn back some of the $31 million she may be out due to the split.
