Katy Perry was extremely quiet about her divorce from comedian and actor Russell Brand -- until she had a movie to promote. The 'Wide Awake' singer reveals in a new interview why she decided to show the emotional turmoil of her breakup in her new film, 'Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D.'

"In my personal struggle, you see me not changing and not giving up on this dream that I've had my whole life. Hopefully people are inspired by that," Perry told MTV. "You don't always see me with all the gorgeous lighting and makeup on and all that. I think it's fine," she said, echoing an earlier interview about showing her zits on the silver screen. "Hollywood is so fake and people need to realize that people are just people, and you, too, don't need to be born into something or have money or have whatever product someone is hawking on you. Find out what your gift is and nurture it."

Of course, though, her movie is only showing one side of the split: hers. When MTV pointed that out, she expounded a bit more, though she remained cryptic on what actually went down between her and the funny man. "The truth will always prevail," Perry said firmly. "Everything has to be handled with integrity and appropriately, and it's not nice to air all your dirty laundry, because that stinks, so I had to be very delicate with the situation, but I couldn't avoid the elephant in the room. If you were to have seen that movie and walked out and [my breakup] wasn't at all mentioned like it never happened, you'd be like, 'Eh, this is weird, what is she trying to hide?'" she said. Good point! "I don't like to hide."

Us Weekly reports that within the film, Perry panics over not being able to see Brand because of her packed schedule, asking her team, "Where are my relationship days?" The film shows that Perry made efforts to see Brand at least once every two weeks and that she'd usually fly wherever he was filming to spend at least a few days with him -- and that it took its toll on her personally and professionally, with a team member saying in a voice over, "She'll fly to wherever Russell is. She's running herself ragged."

We're still a little wary of Perry's motives. While we admire her passion for truth, it seems awfully convenient that she's only willing to open up about her split when she's got tickets to push. In any case, we don't know if Russell will be particularly thrilled with her film -- but he's probably too nice to say so publicly.
