Katy Perry has been vocal about the sadness she faced when she split with husband Russell Brand after only 14 months of marriage.

But she is pulling back the curtain on details, revealing that she was so depressed that she holed up in bed for two weeks once Brand revealed he was done with the union.

"I was in bed for about two weeks," Perry said in a revealing new interview while promoting her new album 'Prism.' She continued, "I was pretty f--ked, yes. It hurt a lot -- I got a good knock."

The singer admitted that the pain of her divorce factored into the album's creation, saying, "What I wanted to call this record at first was 'Adult Reality,' because 'Teenage Dream' was me so high on that cotton-candy cloud, and then it's like I got punched in the face and kicked down the stairs a couple of times. I had to face the reality that things are not always on cloud nine."

Cue to chorus from 'Wide Awake': "I'm falling from cloud nine.."

She again confirmed that 'By the Grace of God' from 'Prism' is autobiographical, and that "I was down and out, I'd lost hope, all of my confidence had been shattered. Unfortunately, although I had a lot of outward self-identity, I didn't have the inner kind, I hadn't built that up."

Perry confessed, "My self-worth was in someone else's hands, which is never a good idea, because it can be taken from you at any time. And it was, and it was shattered."

No one, not even Katy Perry, is immune to heartbreak. Sharing how hurt she was when her husband ended their marriage certainly puts her on "our" level and makes her that much more real.
