Is Katy Perry’s ‘Bad Blood’ Response Coming After All?

Rise and roar, KatyCats: Katy Perry‘s well on her way to completing her fourth (technically fifth, shout-out to Katy Hudson) studio album, the follow-up to 2013’s PRISM — and it sounds as though she’s assembled a winning team yet again.

Last night, after reacting bigly to the (mercifully) final presidential debate, the “Teenage Dream” pop princess dropped the tiniest of promising morsels about what’s to come.

“Ok back to the studio for me. 2017 is gonna tight af,” she tweeted in her relatable teen-speak way before expertly mocking Donald Trump’s presidential slogan and pledging new music in one tweet: “MAKE LYRICS GREAT AGAIN cc Max Martin & Shellback.”

Max Martin is no surprise, of course: the two have worked together ever since “I Kissed A Girl” and “Hot N Cold,” through to “Teenage Dream” and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” “California Gurls” to “Roar” — all the way up to “Rise,” actually. They’re a winning combination, to say the least.

Shellback, while a constant Max Martin collaborator and frequent guest on her contemporary’s records, hasn’t actually appeared in Katy’s liner notes before.

With an endless streak of smashes to his name — from Britney‘s “If U Seek Amy” to Carly Rae Jepsen‘s “Run Away With Me” to most deliciously, Taylor Swift‘s “Bad Blood” (co-produced by Martin) — it’s unlikely that he, Perry and Martin will concoct anything less than saccharine Swede-pop perfection. And perhaps a particularly cutting response to Taylor’s track?

Or, maybe there’s a kiss-and-make-up track in the works? Remember: Katy’s willing to collaborate with Taylor…if Taylor apologizes.

“I’m just having a lot of fun, but experimenting and trying different producers, and different collaborators, and different styles. I’m not rushing … I’m confident if I stay vulnerable and authentic with myself, the music that comes out of me will continue to connect,” she told Ryan Seacrest in August.

We’ll see you in 2017, Miss Perry.
