First Justin Bieber stole Lady Gaga's Twitter crown, notching more followers. Now, her fellow pop diva Katy Perry has cruised passed Ma Monster, pushing her down to the third most followed person. She has officially fallen from Twitter grace.

Gaga has approximately 39,305,376 followers, while Perry has accrued around 39,883,873 followers.

Ma Monster isn't likely to be bemoaning or boo hooing her tumble in the Twitterverse. She has been somewhat inactive on the service, even temporarily shutting down her account in order to make announcements via her Little Monsters social media site, which has been viewed as an 'ARTPOP' marketing ploy.

Plus, her personal social media site is probably more important, since it's expressly her space and digital domain. Twitter is so 2011 for Gaga, ya know?

The Biebs, however, is still owning Twitter, with 42,330,850 followers.

Below are the 10 most followed tweeters! Notice with the exception of the leader of the free world at No. 4, it's ALL pop stars.

We'd also like to mention that the real value in Twitter is not the amount of followers a person has but in how many people react to their tweets in terms of retweets and favorites. Lots of users are inactive, but the ones who are active demonstrate a crazy level of engagement, making the interaction with the tweets more valuable. Jimmy Fallon proved that with a social media experiment relating to the Biebs' tweets.
