Listen: Kelly Clarkson Mashes Up With David Guetta + Sia in New Remix
What do you get when you mash up two of the best pop vocalists on the planet with one of the world's highest-profile DJs? You get this awesome mashup of Kelly Clarkson's 'Dark Side' with David Guetta and Sia's radio smash, 'Titanium.' The DJ behind the mix is Monique Kim, who dubbed the track 'My Stronger, Titanium, Dark Side.'
The song opens with Clarkson's 'Dark Side' verse set the Guetta and Sia's 'Titanium' intro. When Clarkson gets to her chorus, it fades into Sia's powerful, "You shoot me down, but I won't fall / I am titanium" to great effect. The second verse is actually from Clarkson's hit 'Stronger,' which fits beautifully with Guetta and Sia's 'Titanium' theme of not being shot down by critics, naysayers and, in Clarkson's case, a jerky ex.
Kim blends the three songs seamlessly, and she escapes what a lot of lower-tempo songs suffer when mixed and mashed with higher ones: Never once does Clarkson have the "chipmunk effect" from the slight speeding up of her powerhouse voice.
The DJ is a pretty prolific YouTube artist, and has also posted mashups of Adele's 'Rolling in the Deep' and Britney Spears' 'Til the World Ends,' Lady Gaga's 'Just Dance' with Dev's 'Dancing in the Dark' and several other medleys. Kim also has videos of her own singing, and she's pretty great.
This mashup may inspire Clarkson's fans to choose 'Titanium' as her next live cover. The 'American Idol' champion has already done killer renditions of 'Everytime' by Britney Spears, 'Wide Awake' by Katy Perry, and 'Don't Speak' by No Doubt. Perhaps Clarkson's most notorious -- and awesome -- cover to date was of Eminem's 'Lose Yourself,' for which she donned his signature hoodie.
