Last week, Kelly Clarkson enjoyed a sales bump after she endorsed Republican congressman and fellow Texan Ron Paul. It was a polarizing tweet, since some of her fans aren't all about Paul -- these people criticized her for endorsing Paul for president. Despite this, the Congressman actually acknowledged the support he got from the 'Mr. Know It All' singer.

Paul brought up the fact that Clarkson supported his campaign at a Rock the Caucus event at Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa. He also mentioned how his supporters responded in turn by checking out her music. However, one thing Paul got wrong was the size of the sales increase.

First, Paul asked the crowd if anyone knew the name Kelly Clarkson, and there was an eruption of cheers. Clearly, Paul's Iowa-based supporters are more knowledgeable about their pop music and pop stars than he is. We can give him a pass, since he's busy with public policy and the like!

Paul said, "Recently she endorsed me and I have to admit, I didn't know a whole lot about her. But our supporters were so enthusiastic about it that they went out and bumped up her sales of her record 600 percent."

The increase wasn't 600 percent, but Clarkson's sales did leap when she tweeted her support of the Congressman. Congrats to Clarkson on the boost in album sales and to Paul for receiving support from such an influential celebrity.
