Kelly Clarkson is dusting off her acting chops.

The Meaning of Life singer has joined the cast of UglyDolls, in which she'll voice the character of Moxy and also perform original songs. The animated feature is based on the plush toy line by David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim which, according to Variety, subverts "the idea of ugly by turning the adjective into a positive" — a message that hit home for Clarkson, who's had to personally fend off critics of her weight and image.

“The UglyDolls’ universal message celebrating our differences and individuality really resonates with me, and when STX showed me how incredible UglyDolls will look and feel, I jumped at being part of that world," Clarkson said in a statement via Variety. "I can’t wait to start working."

Per Deadline, the movie will follow Moxy and her UglyDoll friends as they "confront what it means to be different, struggle with their desire to be loved, and ultimately discover that you don’t have to be perfect to be amazing because who you truly are is what matters most."

Clarkson is set to star alongside fellow musician Pitbull, who will also contribute original music. Kelly Asbury (Shrek 2, Smurfs: The Lost Village) is set to direct.

UglyDolls is slated to hit theaters May 10, 2019. An animated kids series based on the franchise is also underway with a full series order from Hulu.
