In the world of Insta models-turned-real fashion muses, Kendall Jenner is queen, but good pal Gigi Hadid is hot on her heels.

While Gisele Bündchen is undisputedly the world's highest-paid model (she made more than $30 million between June 2015 and June 2016), Jenner is holding it down for models with roots in social media. Clocking in at No. 3 on Forbes' annual list of premiere earners just behind Adrianna Lima, Jenner raked in $10 million thanks to campaigns with brands like Estée Lauder and Calvin Klein. She's seen the biggest growth year over year, too, and experienced a 150 percent bump in earnings. Plus, with nearly 65 million Instagram followers, she's got more online-clout than anyone else on the list.

Hadid, who has just shy of 23 million Instagram followers, landed at No. 5 on the list having earned $9 million. She tied with British model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and can credit new wealth to contracts with brands like Maybelline and Tommy Hilfiger.

And while some top designers like Calvin Klein insist social media clout can't sustain real business for fashion brands, IMG Models President Ivan Bart argues people like Jenner and Hadid are, indeed, the future of the industry.

"Models, YouTube stars, social media stars–this is their era,” he said. ”Models were on the cover of the last two issues of American Vogue: Gigi in August and Kendall in September.”
